All,
I have a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator (model 253.54363407) that periodically makes a loud knocking sound. Both the freezer and refrigerator sides are cooling properly. The refrigerator is approximately 11 years old.
When the knocking sound occurs, I have watched the compressor bounce up and down slightly in rhythm with the knocking sound. The knocking sound does not occur every time the compressor starts. However, I do believe the sound occurs when the compressor is running.
Based on some internet reading, I cleaned the coils. To get them really clean I ended up using a leaf blower. Very effective, but messy (good thing my wife is visiting her mom ).
The condenser fan runs quietly and appears to be operating normally.
The ice maker is also working normally.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

Some popping noises could be caused by normal vibrations within the refrigerator. The powerful compressor motor can cause enough vibration in the unit that plates sitting on the shelves inside may tap together and cause what sounds like a continuous popping from outside the unit. Behind your refrigerator is the compressor whose job is to compress the refrigerant gas and begin the cooling cycle. When the compressor pulls too much power, the overload causes the compressor to overheat and you’ll hear a click as the compressor turns off to protect itself. Refrigerator makes popping noises. I have a Samsung refrigerator that can be noisy at times. I hear loud popping sounds coming from the refrigerator at random times. What could be causing the noises in my fridge? I had a Whirlpool refrigerator in the past and I never heard very loud noises. Jan 27, 2020 Your fridge shouldn't sound like a bird or small critter is trapped inside. If you do hear noisy refrigerator sounds like squealing or chirping, it may mean the evaporator fan is malfunctioning.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Popping Noise

Just bought this fridge new at Menards in april of this year. We were on a budget and I realize we get what we pay for, but why is it making a constant popping noise while the compressor is running? its not during the defrost cycle though.. It sometimes is very loud and constant, and sometimes very quiet and sometimes I don't hear the popping at all. it cools just fine, but the popping noise is driving me nuts sometimes.. is there a fix?
Does anyone have or had the same problem that they have a solution for?? I have a service tech coming out Monday, but I have a feeling they will say its normal noise as the customer service rep told me over the phone, BUT THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS NORMAL NOISE> I understand during defrost cycle, but not while its running, HELP
