  • Oct 01, 2019 Amazon unfortunately doesn't let you delete the dozens of pre-installed applications that come with your tablet (who actually uses the Maps app?), but you can still get rid of apps and games you.

Surprisingly, there are quite a few ways you can customize each of them. Here are a few –
Remove the “New Items” Section
Remove All of the Recommendations
Change the Wallpaper
Group the Apps
Remove the Search Bar
Group Notifications Together
Hide Specific Content
Make the Font Larger or Smaller

Remove the “New Items” Section

  1. If you’d prefer to have your main home screen a bit less cluttered, you can remove the New Items section entirely.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Select Apps & Notifications
  4. Select Amazon App Settings
  5. Select Home Screens
  6. Switch the toggle next to Show New Items on the Home Page to OFF
  7. Now the main Home screen only has you App icon shortcuts.

Remove All of the Recommendations

  1. On most of the Home Screens (For You, Books, Music etc) there are sections full of things Amazon thinks you might be interested in. Most of the time they feel a lot more like ads for stuff you don’t want to buy. You can remove most of them – for some unknown reason Amazon won’t let you remove the Video recommendations. To remove all of the others, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select Apps & Notifications
  3. Select Amazon App Settings
  4. Select Home Screens
  5. Switch the toggle next to Recommendations to OFF
  6. Now return to your Home screen and check out the Books section. As illustrated in the before/after images below, the large section at the bottom is now gone. Check the other Home screens and you’ll see similar changes.

Change the Wallpaper

Preinstalled
  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select Display from the list of Settings.
  3. Select Wallpaper
  4. Select the Wallpapers item.
  5. If you’ve saved a photo on your Amazon Fire that you’d like to use as the home screen background image/wallpaper, tap the Pick image icon and select that picture.
  6. Otherwise you can choose one of the included wallpapers – swipe from right to left to view them all. Select the wallpaper you want to use by tapping on it once and then the Set button.

Group the Apps

  1. Out of the box, before you even install any of your own Apps – the Amazon Fire has a pretty cluttered home screen/desktop. Here’s a quick way to organize it and tidy it up at the same time.
  2. You can group Apps into their own little box by dragging and dropping one of them onto another. Tap and hold one of the App icons, then drag-and-drop it onto another App icon.
  3. As soon as you let go, a window will appear asking you to give this new App ‘collection’ a name. You can name it anything you want, but something descriptive will be helpful.
  4. Continue to drag-and-drop other App icons into this newly created collection.
  5. Create different collections for different App types and before you know it your Amazon Fire home screen will be a lot less cluttered.

Remove the Search Bar

Note: several readers have mentioned that they don’t see the option to remove the Search Bar. If you don’t see it, you may need to update your device to the latest version of “Fire OS” (the operating system the Kindle Fire uses). To do so, open the Settings, scroll down to Device Options and then select System updates. Tap the CHECK NOW button to confirm your device is using the latest software – if it’s not, just follow the on-screen instructions to update it (it’s super easy and doesn’t take long).

  1. I’m not sure about you but I’ve never grabbed my Amazon Fire and tried to search for something using that search bar on the Lock Screen. Here’s how to disable it:
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down and select Device Options
  4. Select Search Bar
  5. Toggle the Display search bar on lock screen setting to OFF
  6. That’s it. The search bar will now be gone from the Lock Screen.

Group Notifications Together

  1. You can keep the notification bar a bit more tidy by grouping all of the notifications into one. Here’s how –
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Select Apps & Notifications
  4. In the NOTIFICATIONS section locate the Collapse notifications item and switch the toggle to ON
  5. Now when there’s more than one pending notification they’ll group themselves into one.

Hide Specific Content

  1. Some of the items on the various home screens can be ‘hidden’. For example, if you tap one of the books in your Library and hold your finger down, a small menu will appear. Select Remove from Home and the book will be removed from the home screen. It hasn’t been deleted from your device, it just won’t show up on your home screen.
  2. The same holds true for the apps listed in the Recent Apps section. If you tap one of the icons and hold your finger down, a similar menu will appear. Select Remove from Home and the icon for that app will disappear. Again, the app itself hasn’t been deleted, it’s just not listed in the Recent Apps section.
  3. Try this with the other items on the various home screens. Some can be hidden, some can’t.

Make the Font Larger or Smaller

  1. You can increase or decrease the size of the font for most of the text on the Amazon Fire home screens. To do so, start by tapping the Settings icon.
  2. Select Accessibility
  3. Select Font size
  4. Use the slider at the bottom of the window to either increase or decrease the size of the font. The text on the screen will increase or decrease as you make the change to help you decide which setting is the right one for you.
  5. When you return to your Home screens you’ll find most of the text has resized based on your preference.

For the money, the Amazon Firestick is a great little device. It plays TV, enables you to install apps to add features or channels and you can do all kinds of things with it. The Amazon Firestick is cheap and streamlined for media playback which means it doesn’t have much storage. If you’re running low or want a clean sweep, this tutorial will show you how to delete all apps on the Amazon Firestick.

How To Remove Preinstalled Apps On Amazon Fire Stick

Streaming

The 2019 Amazon Firestick has 8GB of storage. That sounds a lot but if you have had yours for any length of time, you will know that space is very easy to fill up. While the apps themselves aren’t huge, there are so many of them that you will quickly find yourself having installed a couple dozen just to see what they will do. Add any downloaded movies and TV shows and you will often find yourself clearing out storage on the Amazon Firestick.

Add to that the preinstalled apps that often come with such devices that you will likely never use and you have a good case for some Firestick housekeeping. Amazon are okay with keeping bloatware to a minimum but there are likely apps on the Firestick you would never use. Removing those as well would claw back much needed storage.

Delete apps on the Amazon Firestick

As far as I know, there is only one official way to delete all apps at once on the Amazon Firestick. A factory reset. As that will also remove any personal details and customizations, that isn’t the best bet. I’ll still show you how to do that in a minute but first I’ll show you how to delete apps individually. You will have to remove each app separately but you can do it from a single screen. It may still take a few minutes but it’s the best we have.

  1. Log into your Amazon Firestick on your TV.
  2. Select Settings from the menu and Applications.
  3. Select Manage Installed Applications from the menu.
  4. Select an app you want to install from the list on the page.
  5. Select Uninstall from the list within the app details.
  6. Confirm the uninstall when prompted.
  7. Repeat for every app you want to remove.

Some users I know suggest clearing data and clearing the cache before deleting to make sure everything is removed and you claim back maximum storage space. You may or may not want to do that

Delete apps using a file manager

I said earlier that the only official way to remove apps was to use a factory reset. The unofficial way is to use something like File Manager, ES File Manager, X-plore File Manager or File Commander. Each allows you to select multiple files at once to delete them.

ES File Manager is a popular file manager and one I use. Once you open the app you have an Apps option to highlight all installed apps. You can select multiple apps from here and send them all to the Recycle Bin or use the built-in Space Analyzer to identify what is using up all your free space.

Factory reset to delete all apps on an Amazon Firestick

If you want a mass clearout or you’re finding all the apps and movies are slowing down your Amazon Firestick, a factory reset may be in order. The more stuff you load onto it, the slower it gets so a little housekeeping can be a useful exercise to breathe new life into your Amazon Firestick.

Be aware though that a reset will clear all your accounts, logins and any customizations you have made. So if you added your VPN, your Netflix and Hulu accounts, you will need to add them again. There is no better way to revitalize your Amazon Firestick though.

How To Remove Preinstalled Apps On Amazon Fire Tv

  1. Select Settings from your Amazon Firestick menu.
  2. Select My Fire TV and Reset to Factory Defaults.
  3. Confirm by selecting Reset.

Once confirmed, the Firestick will become unresponsive for a little while as it wipes all data and restores itself to factory settings. Depending on your network and how much you had loaded onto it, this can take from five to fifteen minutes. Don’t turn it off, don’t remove the network and don’t interrupt the process otherwise you could brick your stick.

Once done, you will see the original Amazon sign in page you first saw when you unboxed your Firestick for the first time. Now you will need to log in using your Amazon account and set everything up again. You should see the Firestick working much faster as a result though!
